School Leadership

Our Commitment to Students

At Hayes School, we set high expectations for students—and hold ourselves to an even higher standard as educators. We lead with collaboration, celebration, care, and an unrelenting commitment to providing a high-quality public education for every student who joins the Roland Hayes School community.

Teaching and Learning at Hayes

Educators at Hayes are engaged in ongoing, school-wide conversations about mindset, the connection between teaching practices and student outcomes, and how to foster classroom and school cultures where students feel ownership of their learning. Families also bring an important perspective to this work, and we welcome your insights into the joys, challenges, and growth your child experiences throughout the school year.

Student Life and Community

The Hayes faculty has received numerous grants and awards and is recognized locally and nationally for excellence in teaching. The school fosters a strong sense of community through a wide range of programs and experiences, including fall Field Day, student affinity groups, support for the Gay-Straight Alliance (grades 6–8), the Young Scholars Program for students of color (grades 4–8), and Student Council representation in grades 4–8.

Additional opportunities include school-wide events, author visits, performances, and a middle school play. Students also engage in cross-grade partnerships, working with older or younger peers throughout the year. Student Council representatives help coordinate the Holiday Toy Drive and food drive for the Brookline Food Pantry. Students in grade four lead recycling efforts, and a third grade class manages the Lost and Found.

Family Partnership

The PTO plays an important role in the school community and organizes many events to encourage family participation, including a Welcome Back Social, Family Game Night, Family Book Clubs, International Night, the Art Show, and Mayfair. All families are members of the PTO.
