School Improvement Plan

At Hayes School, we set high expectations for students—and hold ourselves to an even higher standard as educators. We lead with collaboration, celebration, care, and a strong commitment to providing a high-quality public education for every student.

Educators at Hayes are engaged in ongoing, school-wide conversations around collaboration, educational equity, mindset, and the connection between teaching practices and student outcomes. We strive to create classroom and school environments where students feel a sense of ownership over their learning. Families are essential partners in this work, and we value their insights into the joys, challenges, and growth their children experience throughout the school year.

Hayes fosters a strong sense of community through service learning, student leadership, and inclusive programming. Students participate in community service across grade levels and contribute to the broader community in meaningful ways. Opportunities include support for the Gay-Straight Alliance (grades 6–8), the Young Scholars Program for students of color (grades 4–8), and Student Council representation in grades 4–8.

The PTO plays an important role in the school community, organizing events that encourage family participation and engagement. All families are members of the PTO, and Hayes is grateful for their continued partnership and support.

As educators, we see ourselves as craftspeople and innovators. We model risk-taking, learning from mistakes, and creating safe environments where students feel empowered to take academic risks in service of deeper learning. We also recognize that risk-taking extends beyond academics—our commitment to equity and social justice guides our work and strengthens our community.

Our School Improvement Plan reflects these shared values and outlines the goals and strategies that guide our work. We aim for students to not only benefit from this work, but to be able to articulate how it impacts their learning and growth.
